COMMUNITY& ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DECEMBER 10,2012 <br /> 4:40 P.M. <br /> Committee Members Present: Karen White, Gavin Ferlic, Dr. Fred Ferlic <br /> Other Council Present: Tim Scott, Oliver Davis, Derek Dieter <br /> Others Present: Andrew Nemeth, Murray Miller, Tricia Deal, Leslie Kleppe, <br /> Kathy Hahn, Jeff McGowan, Dave Heckaman, Mia Tran, <br /> Michael Lindbergh, Kathy Cekanski-Farrand, Erin Blasko <br /> Agenda: Bill No. 12-89 Abatement 710 Niles; Bill No. 12-90 Abatement 707 Scott; <br /> Bill No. 12-91 Abatement 228 Bronson; Bill No. 12-92 3702 Sample <br /> Gavin Ferlic, Vice-Chairperson, Community&Economic Development, chaired this <br /> afternoon's committee meeting in Chairperson Henry Davis, Jr.'s absence. A quorum <br /> was present. <br /> There were four agenda items and they were all requests for tax abatement. In each case <br /> Kathy Hahn from the Community Investment Department began each bill hearing with a <br /> report outlining the qualifying criteria met by the abatement applicants,the dollar amount <br /> of new taxes abated and the new dollar amount paid. <br /> Andrew Nemeth representing the applicant, East Bank Learning Center(EBLC),made <br /> the presentation to the committee. EBLC intends to purchase one of the former Madison <br /> Center buildings to enhance and expand their day care capability not only for pre- <br /> schoolers;but also infants. It was stated by Mr. Nemeth that the increase in enrollment <br /> would go from 100 to 150. Mrs. Leslie Kleppe principal of EBLC added information and <br /> answered questions. During the public portion Tricia Deal lauded the developmental <br /> learning her own son had received when he was there. Bill No. 12-89 (Attachment filed <br /> in the Office of the City Clerk.) Ultimately Karen White and Dr. Ferlic registered <br /> motions supported by all that the bill be sent to Council favorably. <br /> The next item Bill No. 12-90 was an abatement petition filed by S. B. Woodworks. Mr. <br /> Michael Lindbergh, owner of the firm made the presentation after Kathy Hahn's <br /> favorable report. Mr. Lindbergh said he had purchased two properties on S. Scott which <br /> intends to renovate to produce wooden children's toys and alumni type memorabilia. <br /> After brief discussion Karen White motioned the bill e sent favorably. Dr. Fred Ferlic <br /> seconded and all affirmed. <br /> Bill No. 12-91, a petition for abatement filed by Curtis Products was next. A local <br /> growing manufacturing facility plans to expand explained their representative Jeff <br /> McGowan and company President Dave Heckaman. The abatement would allow Curtis <br /> to buy additional manufacturing equipment. <br />
