Wood <br />shingling covers the exterior walls, roof is pyramidal with gable-ended dormers with soffit returns and is <br />covered in asphalt shingles. Porch roof is supported by paired and tripled Doric columns set on plinths <br />supported by brick piers with stone caps. A wood balustrade encloses the porch. Windows are a mix of 9/1 <br />double hung and casement windows, some with aluminum storm windows. <br /> <br />ALTERATIONS: COA #2004-0712 allowed for the replacement of the asphalt shingle roof. COA #2013-925 <br />allowed for the demolition of the house and removal of the basement (NOT COMPLETED). COA #2015-0922A <br />allowed for the in-kind replacement of missing/deteriorated cedar shake siding (from fire damage). RME #2018- <br />1001F allowed for the removal and replacement of the sidewalk. AA #2020-1109-AMENDED allowed for the <br />installation of a new gas meter, two new air-conditioner units, new flue pipes, and new front entrance lights. AA <br />#2021-0330 allowed for in-kind repair to elements of the roof, various woodwork, the removal of the fire escape, <br />replacing the mailbox, rehabilitation of the windows (including the replacement of a missing window with a <br />window from the HPC inventory), and the replacement of the rear entrance door. <br /> <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: “Remove 2 small windows in kitchen (exterior photos attached). The windows were not <br />present when I bought the house and the frames were destroyed in the fire years ago. The openings will be <br />properly enclosed and cedar shake siding installed to match current siding. The kitchen has 3 other windows and <br />is open to the dining room, which has 5 large windows. I also propose to build a balcony in the back of the house <br />on top of the small roof from the 2nd story. Simple rendering attached. I will model the baluster / railing from the <br />front porch railing, adjusting for code enforced height. The balcony will be painted white. The current window <br />opening will be replaced as a single sash, remain 6 over 1 to keep the look, but will be on hinges. Salvaged wood <br />for sash and old glass will be used.” <br /> <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The applicant has requested approval to: <br /> <br />a. Close-up two openings on the rear of the house that correspond to (lost) windows in what is the <br />kitchen. <br />i. Openings will be filled-in and sided over with cedar shake siding to match the existing. <br />b. Construction of a new baluster / railing around the second story rear porch. <br />c. Installation of a new 6/1 wood window constructed from salvaged material in a casement/hinged <br />opening. <br /> <br />This property in an ongoing restoration and rehabilitation by the current owner with an expressed interesting in <br />rehabilitating existing wood windows, siding, and trim. <br /> <br />STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES: TAYLOR’S FIELD <br />II.
