Main Street <br />South Bend, IN 46601 <br />Dear Mr. Farrand: <br />At the July 18, 1988 meeting, the Historic Preservation Commission reviewed the <br />preliminary conceptual plans for the Central High School Rehabilitation Project. <br />Approval was given for the first part of the request which includes: <br />a) relocation of parking spaces on St. James Court away from the elliptical stone <br />entry <br />b) repair of elliptical stone entry and return of the flagpole to its original <br />position <br />c) installation of a handicapped ramp to replace south steps to lower level <br />at original main entrance (pending approval of final plans) <br />d) restoration of 1914 landscape plan from known physical plans) <br />e) removal of chain -link fence <br />Item f) construction of new entry on west facade reusing stone portal from VoTec <br />building was denied for lack of information, i.e. drawings showing the placement <br />of the VoTec entry portal on the west facade of the main high school building, <br />information on the treatment of the existing walls and windows of that area and <br />because the decision to allow demolition of the VoTec Building had not been made <br />prior to this motion. <br />Part 2 of the proposal requesting demolition of the landmark VoTec building was <br />tabled until the August 15 meeting to allow for submission of additional information. <br />This additional information should include: <br />1. Project <br />a) Estimated total cost of project <br />b) Sources of funding of project , <br />c) Cost per square foot of new storage facility at Bendix (for comparative <br />purposes) <br />d) Documentation of economic hardship; financial analysis and 5-year projections. <br />O <br />
