Asst. - Chris Nagy <br />ANNUAL REPORT - 1987 <br />In 1987, the Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph <br />County continued to provide preservation services to an increasing number of <br />citizens and groups. They included homeowners, developers, business owners, <br />architects, students, tourists, authors, neighborhood organizations, other <br />non-profit groups, and local, state, and federal governmental agencies. The <br />Commission gave advice and information on the following topics: the National <br />Register for Historic Places, the 20i: Investment Tax Credit, facade easements, <br />landmark and district designation, the Historic Sites and Structures Inventory, <br />the history of area buildings, researching historic buildings, the Secretary of <br />the Interior's Standards, restoration techniques, adaptive use of historic <br />structures, funding sources, the Main Street Program, and preservation <br />legislation. The Commission was awarded grants from different fundinq sources <br />fund two full time, Brian Poland and Christopher Nagy, one part time, Elaine <br />unta.in and four temporary employees, Mary Suter, John Shreve, Todd Zeiger, and <br />Luzie Zeiger. <br />Historic Sites &f Structures Inventory <br />The Commission continued the Survey Records Management updating of the Historic <br />Sites and Structures Inventory. Information was transferred to new state forms <br />on 2,810 structures including 1,311 contributing structures. All 2,810 were <br />re -photographed. Christopher Nagy worked for the full year on the survey, while <br />Mary Suter, John Shreve, and Todd Zeiger were employed part of the year on the <br />survey. Suzanne Zeiger was hired to type the state inventory forms. <br />Landmarks <br />The Historic Preservation Commission moved to recommend Landmark designation to <br />the South Bend Common Council for the following two buildings: <br />620 I.,,I. LaSalle Street <br />718 W. La.Sal le Street <br />The Commission worked with owners of the fol 1 owi ng buildings on possible <br />landmark status and its benefits: <br />60415 Bremen Hviy. (Fulmer School) 11997 Kern Road (Boner School) <br />929 Milton 220 t.I. Colfax (I&cM Building) <br />The legal description was amended for the landmark located at 50106 Bittersweet <br />Trai 1 . <br />IF, addition legal description changes were discussed for 19109 Johnson Rd. and <br />12594 State Road 23. <br />
