St. James Court <br />South Send, IN 46601 <br />Local Landmark <br />National Register of Historic Places <br />PROPOSAL <br />Part 2 - July 18, 1988 Certificate of Appropriateness <br />Tabled for further information at July 18, 1988 meeting. <br />The proposal includes the removal of the Vo-Tec Building and <br />boi1erhouse and construction of new parking lot with <br />additional landscaping on west side of building in context <br />v,ith original plan; <br />The School Corporation's reasons for the demolition of the <br />VoTec Building and Boilerhouse include: <br />a) The South Bend Community School Corporation does not <br />require additional space outside the Central High <br />School building to fulfill its program requirements; <br />b) The SB Community School Corp. needs additional on -site <br />parking in order to fulfill program and code <br />requirements; <br />c) A nev, entry is desired from the west or parking side of <br />the property; <br />d) The Vocational/Technical and Powerplant Buildings have <br />little or no aesthetic value and detract from the <br />quality of the Central High School building; <br />e) The costs for renovation and restoration of the <br />Vocational/Technical building and Boilerhouse will <br />severely affect the quality and feasibility of the <br />renovation of Central High School; <br />f) The cost of renovation for the Vocational/Technical <br />building into feasible space would create leasehold <br />costs that would not be competitive in the market <br />place. <br />
