Management Discussion & Analysis <br /> adjacent to the University of Notre Dame campus, just outside of the City limits, and is <br /> expected to be open in time for the 2012/2013 academic year. <br /> • Bike The Bend — Continuation of the 'Bike the Bend" non-competitive event, 30 mile <br /> bicycle race occurred on May 20, 2012 in downtown South Bend. The race highlights <br /> over 60 miles of bicycle lanes established in the City since 2007. <br /> • East Bank Townhouses—the development of 12 townhouse-style condominiums along <br /> the East Bank of the Saint Joseph River was completed in 2011. <br /> • Energy Efficiency and Conservation — supported by a $1.046 million federal stimulus <br /> grant, the City has unveiled a new energy efficiency and conservation strategy which <br /> included the energy audit of 30 municipal buildings, synchronized timing of traffic signals <br /> at the 100 busiest intersections in the City and a feasibility study for generating <br /> hydroelectric power from the Saint Joseph River at the Century Center dam. A Municipal <br /> Energy Office was established in the Central Services Fund and a source of funding was <br /> identified to allow for continuing energy projects. <br /> • Memorial Hospital — a variety of City infrastructure and streetscape improvements <br /> totaling more than $3 million, in connection with hospital investment, including a new <br /> fagade for the Bartlett Street parking garage and reconstruction of four streets on the <br /> hospital campus. <br /> + Existing Business Expansions — the City continues to work with private sector <br /> business concerns to enable expansion of their business operations in the City, adding <br /> new employment opportunities and tax base to the City.
