The Contractor shall be responsible for snow removal within the project limits and shall coordinate <br />with City of South Bend Public Works. The Contractor is responsible for protecting his/her/its <br />project site from excessive wear and tear during snow removal. <br />XIX. COMMUNITY OUTREACH <br /> <br />A. Prevailing Specifications: None <br />B. Additions: <br />1. The Contractor shall be responsible for working with the City of South Bend Public Works <br />Department on necessary communication with residents of construction on their street. The <br />Contractor shall distribute letters to the residents communicating street closures, disruption in traffic <br />patterns, parking restriction/changes, and any other impacts. <br />2. Payment of costs of performing the work described above shall be included in the cost of other <br />contract items. <br /> <br />XX. CONCRETE SIDEWALK, REMOVE <br /> <br />A. Prevailing Specifications: 2020, INDOT Standard Specifications Section 202 <br />B. Additions: <br />1. The pay item CONCRETE SIDEWALK, REMOVE shall include full depth removal of the existing <br />sidewalk. <br />2. Removal limits shall include all areas designated on the plans for new concrete sidewalk. Precise <br />removal limits shall be coordinated with the Engineer prior to starting work at each location. The <br />Contractor shall dispose of the removed sidewalk at an offsite disposal site properly licensed to <br />receive such material. Removed material shall not be stockpiled at the work location and shall be <br />disposed daily. No removed material shall be left on site overnight. The cost of hauling of materials <br />offsite shall not be paid for separately, but included in the cost of concrete sidewalk removal. The <br />Contractor shall be responsible for preventing any removed materials from entering any storm <br />drains. <br />3. Concrete or other items outside the removal limits damaged by the Contractor or any <br />subcontractors during the removal process will be repaired or replaced to the satisfaction of the <br />Engineer at no additional cost. <br />4. Saw cuts required for removal shall not be paid for separately, but shall be incidental to the cost of <br />the concrete sidewalk removal. <br />5. Payment shall be made at the Unit Price specified in the Proposal as follows: <br />CONCRETE SIDEWALK, REMOVE…………….SY <br /> <br />XXI. CONCRETE SIDEWALK, 4-INCH <br /> <br />A. Prevailing Specifications: 2020, INDOT Standard Specifications Section 604 <br />B. Additions: <br />1. The pay item CONCRETE SIDEWALK, 4-INCH shall include constructing new sidewalk in <br />accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines, the United States Access <br />Board Public Right-Of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG), the South Bend Construction <br />Standards and Specifications, and the special provisions herein. <br />2. The contractor shall minimize the area of disturbances not included in the plans. All areas disturbed <br />within the right of way that are not paved shall receive Kentucky Bluegrass seeding or an approved <br />mixture of Kentucky Bluegrass. The seeding shall be applied in a mixture of water and mulching <br />material in accordance with INDOT Standard Specifications section 621. The contractor is <br />responsible for watering for thirty (30) days after placement of the seed. The cost of seeding and <br />watering will not be paid for separately, but shall be included in the cost of the concrete sidewalk. <br />3. The Contractor shall place four (4) inches of rich top soil in all disturbed areas that require <br />seeding. The cost of topsoil, and the cost of soil removal as necessary to achieve proper depth, <br />shall not be paid for separately, but shall be included in the cost of the concrete sidewalk. <br />a. A pH test is required before top soil is brought to site. <br />b. pH test results must demonstrate a pH level between 6.6 and 7.2. pH test results shall be <br />provided to the City of South Bend inspector. <br />c. Existing topsoil may be reused if deemed suitable by the engineer. <br />4. The cost of grading, topsoil, and seeding in disturbed areas shall not be paid for separately, but <br />shall be incidental to the cost of the concrete sidewalk.
