CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />1. 841 Park Avenue COA#2016-0913 Chapin Park <br />Representation by Cole Hay, 841 Park Avenue <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: 9 September, 2016 <br />Application Number: 2016-0913 <br />Property Location: 841 Park Avenue <br />Architectural Style/Date/Architect or Builder: T-Plan/1890/Berger House <br />Property Owner: Cole Hay <br />Landmark or District Designation: Chapin Park <br />Rating: Outstanding <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: The 2 story frame house with a south bay has an irregular plan set upon a brick <br />foundation. It has a cross gable roof with moulded rake and 3 -tab asphalt shingles. There is a small shed dormer on the central <br />gable. The windows are nine -light casements in the front with 3 light transoms. The bay has 9/1 double hung wood windows. <br />The front door is a wood panel door from the 1916 re -model with round light and arched lintel and decorative metalwork and <br />hinges. There are some original wood storm windows and aluminum storm windows. <br />ALTERATIONS: The fagade of the house was remodeled into a cottage style from a T plan with curved side wraparound porch <br />and Doric columns above the knee wall. The 1/1 double hung windows were replaced with casements in the front and 6/1 in the <br />rest of the house. The bay area was added in 1916 with 9/1 windows. The original wood roofing shingles have been replaced <br />with asphalt shingles. The metal awning over the front entrance noted in the 1987 survey card has been removed and a new porch <br />overhang is under construction with COA 2010-1001A. The aluminum storm windows are modem additions. The roof was <br />replaced with COA 2010-1001A. COA 2016-0401 approved completion of front porch, front door replacement, and construction <br />of two masonry piers with arches on either side at front yard comers but gave no approval for windows, siding, trim. COA 2010- <br />0401 B approved replacement of siding and windows but gave no approval to replace exterior trim with new Plygem trim. RME <br />2016-0808 approved removal and replacement of large tree in back yard. <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: Use of trim material — see attached. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: Owner proposes to remove existing wood trim, soffit, and fascia, and replace <br />with Plygem PVC trim <br />
