Wayne St. N COA #2013 -0314 East Wayne <br />Representation by Patrick Ashton of Ashton Construction, Contractor. <br />STAFF REPORT <br />CONCERNING APPLICATION FOR A <br />CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Date: 1 April 2013 <br />Application Number: 2013 -0314 <br />Property Location: 1201 East Wayne Street North <br />Architectural Style/Date /Architect or Builder: Modern/1966 <br />Property Owner: Alexander and Laurie Martin <br />Landmark or District Designation: East Wayne Street <br />Rating: Non - Contributing <br />DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE/ SITE: This residence was built in 1966 for Emil and Virginia Havel. It is a two storey <br />frame construction with a flat rusticated stone fagade on an irregular plan with a low gable roof covered with asphalt shingles. <br />There is a flat rusticated stone chimney. A one storey front flat roof section extends out to cover open porch supported by simple <br />wood box columns over a concrete slab. The windows are large single pane. There is a two car garage with board and batten <br />siding and asphalt shingled roof attached to the rear of house by a one storey gable roof connector. <br />ALTERATIONS: The gable connector to the garage was noted as an addition on the 1986 survey card. The roof on the house <br />and garage was replaced in 2006 (COA #2006 1214A); the storm doors on the front of the house are replacements COA #2007- <br />0517; the roof on the porch and breeze way were replaced along with repairs to the moulding, soffit, gutters and fascia board <br />- -COA# 2008 -0917. The side entry door was replaced with a metal clad 6 panel solid door along with the storm door -with a -self- -- -- <br />storing Courtyard aluminum storm door. There was also the installation of the aluminum soffit vents and the capping of the <br />porch beam (COA #2009 - 0618). <br />APPLICATION ITEMS: On the east side of the house there is an area -open on three sides - between the dining room (to south) <br />and garage (to north); we plan to screen and roof this area. <br />DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED PROJECT: The homeowners have engaged Ashton Construction to create a 10'x16' an <br />enclosed porch in the patio area located between the dining room and the garage. The enclosure will have cedar 6" cove siding <br />on the exterior wall, three 32 "x48" triple track double hung storm windows (see brochure) and a storm door (see brochure). The <br />Roof will be framed to match existing flat roof and a 3'x3' skylight will be installed in the center of the roof.
