DIRECTOR'S REPORT
SEPTEMBER 2005
August 18 County Commission Committee Meeting concerning reallocating the
admission fees from Southhold to our Public Relations line item. Sent to
Council with favorable recommendation.
August 27 Mini Fair on West LaSalle co -sponsored by HPC & HFLI among others.
Wayne and I were both there working from 8 am to early afternoon. We
assisted in striping the siding from two homes and Wayne assisted at
workshops.
September 13 County Council meeting to appropriate the $1,340.00 to HPC's Public
Relations Fund. Vote 9-0 in favor.
September 15 C A M P or Commission Assistance and Mentoring Program at Rudimere
in Elkhart with John Oxian and Lynn Patrick. Highly recommend it to
Commissioners for next year. A good orientation or refresher course
depending on where you arc on the curve. Some useful nuggets: Conduct
the reviews of the COA in "guideline speak" item by item and state reasons.
Do NOT say, "in my opinion", "I believe", cic. Minutes should have exact
wording on motions, votes and instructions to owners; the discussions do
not need to be word for word. Use same version of Roberts Rules as die
City Council.
September 19 Lynn Patrick and I met with John Lentz. acid Mike Eby concerning the
following items: The Edward Talley restitution of $17, 083.55. The
restricted Southhold monies for awards and easements($7000J are in a
Special Gifts Fund accessed by Direct Pay Claims; The unrestricted
Southhold money and the funds from die City($10,083.55) accessed via
appropriation process. The balance of the 2005 City's funding ($19,000) to
HPC is accessed by the appropriation process. We also addressed latent
tax issue from the Talley Administration and a possible resolution to it. The
Navarre Cabin grant paperwork was discussed and die need for a meeting
with Cheryl Taylor of NICH and John Leinz and me.
The HPC Office expansion has been completed acid files and bookcases moved in. We
will need additional office furniture as well as a proper conference table and chairs. The
worktable will suffice for now, but will be needed in the office area.
I would like a motion to appropriate some of the City funds for the purchase office
furniture and die conference table and chairs.
The Cornelius O'Brien Conference is October 20-22 in Lafayette. There is one
scholarship available for staff or a Commissioner. I will need a motion to allow Julie and I
to go to die Conference. I will need a motion also on the scholarship recipient. Lynn
Patrick has indicated that she would like to attend. Wayne Doolittle will cover die office.
