This was the third
schoolhouse constructed on this site since the 1850s
when the Ringle's gifted land to the township for a
school. Children attended school in this building
from 1892 until the 1930s. It was converted into a
single family dwelling sometime thereafter, and in
1988, it was completely rebuilt after a disastrous
fire.
Historic Personage: Warren Irvin, as Secretary of
the Harris Township Trustees, and John A Zaehnle,
as Trustee, authorized the construction of the 1892
Harris Prairie School on the site of the 1869
schoolhouse. D. Werst & Sons, a local firm, built
this school.
Designated a Local Landmark in 1976.
