The Warren Irvin House
13546 Brick Road
Italianate with Cupola -1875
Description: Two-story red brick farmhouse with a
stone foundation surrounded by two remaining out
buildings, a milk house and a privy. This tall stately
home has a wood cornice with brackets and frieze, a
bracketed cupola and stone windowsills and lintels.
Historic Personage: The home was built by Warren
Irvin in 1875. Irvin served as a trustee of Harris
Township and also as Secretary of the Board of
Trustees. His spouse resided in the home after his
death until 1924.
Designated a Local Landmark in 1976.
14912 Brick Road
District #1 School House -1892
Description: This is an excellent example of late
19`h Century rural schoolhouse architecture: red
brick one-story building on a stone foundation with
patterned brick in the front gable and arched
doorways and windows. This was the third
schoolhouse constructed on this site since the 1850s
when the Ringle's gifted land to the township for a
school. Children attended school in this building
from 1892 until the 1930s. It was converted into a
single family dwelling sometime thereafter, and in
1988, it was completely rebuilt after a disastrous
fire.
Historic Personage: Warren Irvin, as Secretary of
the Harris Township Trustees, and John A Zaehnle,
as Trustee, authorized the construction of the 1892
Harris Prairie School on the site of the 1869
schoolhouse. D. Werst & Sons, a local firm, built
this school.
Designated a Local Landmark in 1976.
