Near Northwest <br />Neighborhood <br />IN C O R P O R A T E D <br />December 7, 2005 <br />Historic Preservation Commission <br />County -City Building <br />South Bend, IN 46601 <br />RE: 508 Lindsey Street, Certificate of Appropriateness <br />Commissioners: <br />The Near Northwest Neighborhood, Inc. respectfully requests approval from the Historic <br />Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County to raze the post â <br />construction two-story addition at the residence commonly known as 508-508 '/z Lindsey <br />Street. The revitalization effort will return this "American Four Square" multi -family <br />residential structure to a single-family dwelling. <br />The proposed area of demolition consists of a post -construction footprint measuring 28'- <br />6" (width) x 12'-0" (depth) off set in an easterly fashion from the original foundation. <br />The two-story rear addition measures approximately 24'-0" peak height at the rear <br />(South) roofline. The removal of the rear addition will provide numerous benefits to the <br />surrounding area including a reduction in mass on a city lot and additional rear and side <br />yard green -space for the occupied residence. <br />The extensive rehabilitation will include complete renovation of both the interior and <br />exterior structure with marketable conveniences for future sale. The renovation addresses <br />all aspects of residential code compliance with special attention to period restoration <br />when practical.
