John H. Oxian, President
South Bend and St. Joseph County
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
227 WEST JEFFERSON BLVD.
SOUTH BEND, IN 46601-1830
Phone: 574-235-9798 Fax: 574-235-9578
e-mail: historic@michiana.org
Ms Warlick & Mr. Betson
944 Riverside Drive
South Bend, IN 46616
A Certified Local Government
2004
RE: Porch Restoration Certificate of Appropriateness Permit
Dear Ms Warlick & Mr. Betson:
Karen R. Hammond -Nash, Director
Enclosed is a copy of the C of A for your porch restoration, "and possible siding restora-
tion. No formal hearing is needed for this matter. You will notice that I wrote this C of A to
cover not only those items that you hope to do soon (porch guttering system), but also certain
other matters which I understand that you have in contemplation, but have not decided to do yet
(porch roof, siding restoration).
I did that because you may include as many item as you wish on a single application or
permit, for no additional fee, while there would be a fee if you put those items on a separate appli-
cation. This C of A does not require you to do everything on it; it merely give you permission to
do so. It is valid for one year, and then may be extended by a telephone call or letter to our office.
The main purpose of this letter is to congratulate you an a lovely restoration plan. The
graceful shape and stone accents of your house have always been nice, but, with original trim and
detail restored, and the. attenuated shutters removed, it will be really outstandingly lovely.
Yours,
Karen R. Hammond -Nash,
Director
P.S.: There will be a workshop on wooden window restoration held July 31, at 11:00, at 510
River Avenue, in the Edgewater Drive Local Historic District. Feel free to come; I am sure you
will find it useful with regard to the dramatic original windows on the front of your house.
C: A.Cragen
District Liaisons
COMMISSIONERS
Mary Jane Chase Virginia O'Hair (Secretary) Gerald Ujdak (Vice President)
Martha Choitz Lynn A.
