JOANN SPORLEDER: You should also contact the DNR who have jurisdiction over the cemetery
relative to that sign.
JOHN OXIAN: I think_thatL ou chould-pis-into-a-motien4o4nake4t-offieial.
JOANN SPORLEDER: I move that the director be authorized to cooperate with the township
attorney in seeking redress against the contractor for destruction of historic trees in violation of the
township contract and without a certificate of appropriateness.
DIANE WROBEL-ILLES: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
2. Historic Districts Committee
Proofs of district books; 1021 Portage Avenue; meetings to be set.
MARTHA CHOTTZ: No report regarding District Guideline Books. No report regarding the
request from East Wayne Street Neighborhood Assoc to meet with HPC Districts Committee,
except to say that she believes it is the responsibility of the neighborhood association itself, and not
the HPC, to educate new neighbors regarding district standards.
I have not done anymore about it because we had so many questions. What we were really
talking about whether it was just that one house, and trying to find some way to satisfy his needs to
put it on the national register or whether we want to go ahead and try to form some kind of district
on Portage from California out to Angela. We have not come to any conclusions yet. There are -
sixty-seven properties there and most of them are in fairly good condition. There are some
properties that will not be in good condition very much longer if we don't do something soon. I am
not sure that anyone wants a district there; because, there has been no activity about getting any
cooperation from the owners. It's up to us, and the staff, and to you, John, as to what we want to
get started there, or if we want to take this project on now, or what we should be doing. There
certainly has great potential.
JOHN OXIAN: I think what we really have to do is look and see where the most significant houses
are in those blocks and then go from there.
3. Muessel-Drewery's Brewery Committee Report
JOHN OXIAN: The committee met this morning at 10:00. This was a follow up on a meeting we
had a week ago, Monday, on in the IP floor. The two developers, the representative from
Economic Development, the mayor, Karen, and I were there.
You already have some of the material. This was something that was turned over to
committee, which consists of me, Joann, and Martha.
We are going to come back with a counter proposal to the proposal that was given to us that
Monday. Before Joann leaves to go on vacation she is going to put a counter proposal together and
then we are going to send it back again.
The information that you have here is what we took into the meeting. We also included a
picture that Martha had made showing her idea for the proposal. They then came back with what
they felt was a good proposal. They at least compromised on one building, anyway.
