Mr. Weiner seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
B. Proposed Local Landmarks, 2nd reading
1.501 W. Colfax — Remedy Building
Mr. Lykowski stated that the sale fell through, possibly because of the December
Commission meeting. There was some discussion over Mr. DuVall's intervention in
November. Mr. Lykowski stated that the owner of the Nimitz House next store has
shown interest in purchasing the property and demolishing the house. Mr. Talley noted
that the owner of the Nimitz house may not have the funds to purchase the property and
that the owner had made threats to the Commission staff. Mr. Oxian noted that
Redevelopment was interested in the structure and would like to have a meeting with the
Historic Preservation Commission and Mr. Lykowski. Mr. Lykowski reiterated that the
building was in bad shape on the inside and that he does not have the time to devote to
the structure. Mr. Lykowski asked if the Commission would table the issue for one more
month to allow him time to meet with lawyers and other parties to decide what the best
course of action would be. Mr. Oxian tabled the proposed landmarking of 501 W. Colfax
until the February meeting.
The Commission voted to suspend the reading of the staff reports for the remaining
proposed local landmarks. Mr. Talley noted that the owner of 1917 Cedar approached
the Commission to designate this property as a landmark. Mrs. Hostetler moved to send
proposed local landmarks, 1917 Cedar, 3016 Portage, Angela Street Bridge and 528 S.
Eddy, to the Common Council with favorable recommendations. Mrs. Sporleder
seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
III. Regular Business
A. Approval of Minutes
Mr. Oxian stated that he had no corrections for the December minutes. Mr. Helmus
moved to approve the minutes as submitted. Mr. Ujdak seconded the motion. The
motion passed unanimously.
B. Treasurer's Report
Mr. Talley stated that the treasurer's report was a print out from the Auditors office for
December 1999. Mr. Oxian moved to accept the treasurer's report. Mrs. Hostetler
seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
C. Correspondence
Mr. Talley noted that a letter was received from the YWCA along with various other
letters of minor importance.
14
