RECOMMENDATION <br />The site fulfills criteria #2 as an example of trends in the late 19th century park planning. <br />The historical sites and structures in the park such as the concrete balustrade at the <br />seawall and the artificial ice rink are not rated on the Indiana Historic Sites and Structures <br />Survey as the survey has not yet addressed man-made landscape features of this type. <br />However, the fieldstone administration building is on the inventory and is rated a <br />significant eleven. <br />The site fulfills criteria #3 as an example of late 19th century suburban park planning. <br />The area also represents the integration of recreational space with utilitarian development <br />and the development of modern notions of public health and hygiene. <br />Staff finds that the site meets the criteria for designation as a Local Landmark and <br />recommends that the Commission send such a recommendation to the Common Council. <br />rls <br />2/24/99 <br />
