Historic Preservation Commission
January 7, 1997
Page Two
The immediate need for this Certificate is to replace street name signs removed from within
the Riverside Drive Historic District when the street lighting was upgraded last winter. Several of
the street name signs were mounted on the light poles with the cantilever type bracket. We believe
those brackets are harmful to the hollowspun concrete poles which have considerable historic
character and interest. We would like to replace those signs with post -top mounted signs.
No other immediate need comes to mind. From time to time signs and posts need to be
replaced due either to age, automobile collision or vandalism. We are requesting a "blanket"
Certificate so that timely replacements can be made in the future without delay for application to
the Commission for replacement with the standard materials. If in the future, the materials
described above are no longer available, or the Department of Public Works standards must change
to comply with regulation outside the Department's control, that information will be presented to
the Commission for consideration of a new or revised "blanket" Certificate.
Thank you for your consideration.
•
Enclosures
Application
Photographs
0
Sincerely,
 O
Carl P.
