State Grant Application: 1993 to 1994
By November 6, 1992 the HPC must apply for grant funding through the
Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology for the period between
July 1, 1993 and June 31, 1994. As you know, we have finished the city
Survey Update this year and will publish the results by the end of June,
1993 (the Summary Report); at that time both the county and city will have
been sufficiently surveyed into the near future (the, last county update was
published in 1985). These are the projects that have been funded for the
past ten or so yeras; since surveying is finished, we must ask for funding
for diff ernt purposes.
I have conferred with officials of the SHPO and solicited their opinion as
to appropriate projects that would likely be approved by the state board; I
intend to apply for funding for 1993-1994 for the following projects:
1. Publish a Design Gu_i_deli_nes._Boo_k_1_et_ for Local Historic Districts and
Landmarks. This booklet would serve at least two functions: a. it would be
an updated explanation of District Standards and design guidelines, minimum
maintenance requirements and COA procedures in a compact, "user-friendly"
format for the broad range of owners and occupants of designated
properties; b. it will be an opportunity to be in contact with all of our
designated property -owners and will serve as good public relations for the
HPC and its ongoing administration of Districts and Landmarks.
2. Publish an updated brochure explaining the difference between Local and
National Register Districts; including information on tax credits, etc.
Again, this will be useful for public relations and will help fulfill our
responsibility for educating the public concerning historic preservation.
3. Records Management: Continue updating the City Resurvey Computer
Data -Base. The data -base will become increasingly useful as it is expanded
to contain additional survey data.
4. Update County Survey Cards and begin the process of setting up a
Computer data -base similar to the City Survey Data -Base.
As part of the application process, it is necessary that the HPC "pass an
official motion authorizing the filing of an application to the Division of
Historic Preservation and Archaeology for preservation funds for this
period, 1993 to 1994."
