School Corporation find answers to its maintenance
problems --locating windows, windowframea, eto. This
was one of the benefits of landmark statue,
Mrs. Choitz said the HPC should press on with its
landmarkinB plans. The Studebaker Administration
Building was high on the HPC's list of buildings
needing protection. She thought it unwise to delay__
r--- the plans until pressures mounted and issues became
confused. Also, she could observe, at present, no
obvious need for repairs or changes to the building's
exterior.
Mr. Sriver agreed that no major exterior changes, to
his knowledge, were being contemplated. The building
did, however, need air conditioning; and he didn't
think the School Corporation should have to seek
permission to install air conditioning units.
Mr. Oxian said window AC units were not considered a
permanent change to the building. The School
Corporation would only have to appear before the
Commission to gat permission to, for example, cut into
the wall,
Mrs. Sporleder asked Whether the School Corporation
was planning to replace the windows. Mr. Sriver`a
assistant replied that replacing the windows would be
a major project; and, since the School Corporation
might leave the building in 1998, the expense couldn't
be 'uotif1ed, Instead, they would simply glaze and
paint the windows, all of wh-ich were °open,°,
Mr. Oxian cited a test case, Muesael School, the
subject, had replaced its windows in cooperation with
the HPC. No problems had arisen.
Mrs, 8porleder moved to recommend landmark status for
'-- ------ the Studebaker Administration 8uildinp' Mrs. Dennen
seconded the motion. Motion approved 6-0-1; Mr..
-- , VValaheimer abstained.
C. Studebaker Golf Course --Second Reading
Mr. Oxian reported that,Mr. Haas, who had the previous
month introduced a petitionto landmark the Studebaker
Golf Course, had asked that this petition be
withdrawn. Mr. C>uian proposed instead tabling the
matter indefinitely. The HPC staff had suggested
alternatives such as landnarkin8 a group of golf
courses, or landmark1ng other parklands.
Mrs. Choitz said she wanted to hear the staff report
before making any decision.
