Bellina III <br />1154 Lincolnway East <br />South Bend, IN 46601 <br />PROPOSAL <br />Remove second floor door and door opening at rear of main house <br />over one story extension. Infill with wood clapboard siding to <br />match original siding of main house (original siding of main <br />house is currently covered with asphalt shingle siding). <br />STANDARDS <br />II . Ex.sti ng_, Structures <br />C) Windows and Doors <br />1) Re .gi.red <br />Existing or original windows and doors, including <br />sash, lintels, sills, shutters, decorative glass, <br />pediments, hoods and hardware shall be retained or <br />when deteriorated beyond repair, replaced with <br />duplicates of the existing or original. <br />3) Prohibited <br />Existing or original windows, doors and hardware <br />shall not be discarded when they can be restored and <br />reused in place. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS. <br />The staff recommends that the commission consider the following <br />in the review of this project: <br />A) The proposed project does not meet the requirements of <br />standard II .C( 1) . <br />B) Located at the rear of the house and not seen from the street, <br />the existing opening, a multi -pane wood door and accompanying <br />wood storm door, most likely dates from a later period than <br />the circa 1905 Free Classic Queen Anne home. <br />C) The owner plans to enclose the opening with siding that <br />replicates the original siding of the house. <br />D) In order to be in keeping with the contents of standard <br />II.C(3), the owner must salvage and store the door and storm <br />door to be removed. <br />
