•III. DISTRICTS <br />The Lincolnway East area from 1142 to 1412 was designated as a local historic <br />district in June of 1984. Work also began in the summer on Riverside Drive as -a <br />local district. In addition, a brochure and other handouts were prepared for <br />area residents to answer questions on local districts. <br />IV. CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS <br />Certificates of Appropriateness were reviewed for the following properties: <br />405 West Wayne <br />107 West North Shore Drive <br />552 River Avenue <br />619 Edgewater Place <br />802 Arch <br />110-112 Franklin <br />129 West North Shore Drive <br />V. ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW <br />557 Edgewater Place <br />1608 Devon Circle <br />7672 Lincolnway East <br />553 Edgewater Place <br />757 Lincolnway East <br />740 Bronson <br />The Commission and staff met with private owners, architects, Redevelopment and <br />Bureau of Housing Officials, state officials, and a National Park Service repre- <br />sentative to review and expedite plans for the following projects: <br />• Central High School <br />Sonneborns (Second St. Joseph Hotel) <br />739 Bronson Street <br />Union Station <br />Morningside Hotel <br />State Theater Marquee <br />617 West Washington/626 West Colfax <br />VI. CONFERENCES AND MEETINGS <br />Commission members, the director, and the administrative assistant participated in <br />various conferences throughout the year to keep abreast of current preservation <br />legislation, policies and techniques and thus better serve St. Joseph County. <br />They included: <br />-Second Annual South Bend Mayor's Conference on Guidelines for Successful <br />Rehabilitation of Historic Commercial Buildings, May 15, attended by Mrs. Choitz, <br />Mr. Butler, Mr. Oxian, Mrs. Sporleder, Ms. Kiemnec and Ms. Straw. <br />-Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana Annual Meeting, April 27, Mr. Nimtz and <br />Ms. Kiemnec. <br />-National Main Street Center Videoconference on Revitalizing Downtown, September 18, <br />Mrs. Choitz, Mr. Oxian, Mrs. Petrass, Ms. Kiemnec, and Ms. Straw. <br />-Society of Industrial Archaeologist Annual Conference on Workers Housing and <br />Industrial Buildings, June 14-17, Ms. Straw. <br />-A Regional Conference in Ypsilanti, Michigan on Commission Issues of the Eighties, <br />September 28 and 29, Ms. Kiemnec. <br />
