NEW BUSINESS (Cont.) <br />a. continues... <br />Edgewater Neighborhood is proposed for <br />res' ential preservation from the river <br />to tie alley behind Lincolnway East, and <br />the =tmercial area along Lincolnway East <br />woull remain cam ercial with improvement <br />of the commercial area; 4) addition of <br />the Palais Royale building and a vacant <br />lot along Fellows Street south of Monroe <br />Street to the acquisition list. <br />Mrs. Kolata noted that the staff met with <br />residents of the Edgewater Neighborhood <br />on October 18th to discuss the proposed. <br />amendment. The sentiment at that meeting <br />was that the residents did not wish to be <br />included in the South Bend Central <br />Development Area. Residents were <br />concenied about what would be happening <br />alorg the frontage on Lincolnway East and <br />the preservation of the residential <br />neighborhood. The staff indicated that <br />the intention was to preserve the <br />residential neighborhood, but the <br />residents did not feel that a <br />redevelorment area was needed at this <br />Mrs. Kolata noted that, based on the <br />sentiments expressed at the October 18th <br />meeting and the remonstrances received to <br />Resolution No. 893, the staff would <br />reconmnd that the Edgewater Neighborhood <br />and the c mnercial strip along Lincolnway <br />East be left out of the expansion area of <br />the Proposed resolution. She stressed <br />that the October 18th meeting was a good <br />Mee with constructive discussion and <br />that the staff should continue <br />to t with neighborhood residents to <br />try address the issues they are in <br />a t on. <br />Mrs. Kolata suggested that the <br />remonstrances not be read, but Must be <br />filed with the Commission. <br />Mr. <br />asked the Commissioners if they <br />-5- <br />
