Had we not done that, I don't think they could be as vocal or strong as they are. Je f Gibney: I would just like to make JEFF GIBNEY a few brief comments, in particular to respond to the comments of Mr. Hughes, Sy., about his urging the West Washington-Chapin Street group to work with and support legitimate businesses t±at currently exist on West Washington St reet. I would like to clarify and say tl at from my position, and I think many pE le on the WWCRP Board, that we are encouraging the demolition of all U. ese commercial structures because we are trying to eliminate crime. That is the case. If the case was simply cz , then it would be, certainly, my goal and my encouragement to the WWCRP to work hard with the City administration, the Police Department, ancl organize all to help eliminate crime in that neighborhood, and physically ilitate those buildings. -41-
