of
4
Li
NEWS RELEASE
Date: October 3, 2012 3:30 p.m.
Froze: Derek D. Dieter Council President 532-2200
Oliver J. Davis Council Vice-Presiden 8X-693 8
Karen L. White Committee of Whole Cha er 5985
"St. Joseph County Council Unanimously Supports City Council Efforts"
Today, the South Bend Common Council received the attached letter from the St. Joseph County
Council. We, the Officers of the South Bend City Council, would like to express our sincere gratitude
to each and every member of the St. Joseph County Council, namely:
Michael J. Hamann Michael J. Kruk
Corey D. Noland Daniel G. Herbster
Dale R. Devon Mark A. Catanzarite
Rafael Morton Robert J. McCahill
Mark Root
for taking the time to formally contact us. These St. Joseph County elected legislative officials,
realize as they have stated that, "the ongoing controversy involving the tapes...are having a negative
impact throughout our community, not just the City of South Bend".
For these individuals to express their support to the City Council, as evidenced by each County
Council Member signing the attached letter is most significant. They understand the City Council's
"efforts in attempting to heal our community". As we have noted since this controversy began, it is
truly a community-wide issue.
We are proud to stand with the St. Joseph County Council, who represent all of county's 266,931
residents, and includes members from both political parties to unanimously state that:
"For the sake of the entire community, it is our hope that these matters be resolved
in a more timely manner, and if necessary through out local courts".
We appreciate the confidence which the St. Joseph County Council has expressed to the South Bend
Common Council. As Council Officers, we will continue to exercise leadership which will be always
based on the best interests of our entire community.
