From an Engineering
perspective, a setback to our waterways is becoming increasingly more important given recent, unprecedented
flooding events. The small 15' setback that is being proposed within the CBD will help to mitigate potential damage
to property affected by flood events in the following ways:
- Provides protection from river bank erosion and subsequent slope stability issues.
- Provides access to the riverbank to allow for potential repairs after food events.
- Provides a space in which engineered solutions, such as retaining walls, can be implemented with minimal
disruption to existing buildings.
- Protects and maintains the integrity of the East Race retaining walls and allows for access if maintenance or
repairs are required.
- Natural bank conditions tend to be the best and by far the most cost-effective way to manage bank erosion.
Thanks,
Kara
Kara M.
