REGULAR MEETING MAY 29, 2012 <br /> <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 4189-12 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br /> OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br /> REQUESTING THAT KENNEDY PARK AND <br /> BELLEVILLE PARK BECOME PRIORITIES <br /> FOR OBTAINING MORE PLAYGROUND <br /> EQUIPMENT AND UPDATED SHORT AND <br /> LONG TERM CAPITAL PLANS <br /> <br />Whereas, Kennedy Park located on Olive Street at Westmoor Street contains <br />38.56 acres and Belleville Park located on Evergreen Lane at Meadow Lane are dedicated <br />to park and recreational activities in the City of South Bend; and <br /> <br />Whereas, Kennedy Park and Belleville Park are listed among the eighty (80) <br />listed parks and facilities on the South Bend Parks & Recreation official website; and <br /> <br />Whereas, in 2000, the Kennedy Water Playground opened as a “low-depth, <br />interactive water playground which is geared for children between 18 months and 10 <br />years of age; with some of the features including a slide, tire swing, and multiple spray <br />features being available for fees if 3 years or older with the facilities being opened from <br />thth <br />June 7 to August 8; and <br /> <br />Whereas, on April 12, 2004, the South Bend Common Council passed Ordinance <br />No. 9500-04 which approved the transfer of 0.374 acres of the northern portion of <br />Kennedy Park to the City of South Bend in order to permit the City to straighten and <br />make other improvements to Bendix Drive; and <br /> <br />Whereas, in the interest of addressing the growing needs of the residents and <br />visitors who frequent Kennedy Park and Belleville Park this Resolution is being filed so <br />that there will be discussions with the Park Department and Board of Park <br />Commissioners before the 2013 budget process begins. <br /> <br /> <br />Now, Therefore, be it resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br /> <br />Section I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, believes that <br />South Bend provides great park and recreational opportunities throughout our city. <br /> <br />Section II. The Council believes that there continues to be a growing and <br />sustained demand for more playground equipment at Kennedy and Belleville Parks which <br />should be addressed before next year’s budget process begins. <br /> <br />Section III. The Council further believes that positive discussions should take <br />place so that the needs in these two (2) popular parks may take place. <br /> <br /> Section IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its <br />adoption by the Council and approval by the Mayor. <br /> <br /> s/Oliver J.
