School Zone Flashing Beacons at 39 Schools Safety Improvements (Des. 1801240)
January 22, 2019
Board of Public Works
227 W. Jefferson Blvd., Ste 1316
South Bend, IN 46601
Re.: City of South Bend School Zone Flashing Beacons at 39 Schools Safety
Improvements
Dear Members of the Board of Public Works:
The VS Engineering Team understands that this school zone flashing beacons
installation project brings much needed safety measures for school children across
South Bend. The school zone flashers are a necessary means to help protect
children, teachers and other individuals from high -volume vehicular traffic and
is a continuation of a multi -phased effort to provide school -related pedestrian
safety. Our Project Manager, Mark Herald, PE, is already familiar with some of
the City's pedestrian safety measures as he was the project manager on both the
Lincoln Primary and Perley Fine Arts Academy Safe Routes to School (SRTS) design
projects. Both projects improved sidewalks and curb ramps for neighborhood areas
surrounding the schools.
VS Engineering
10305-A Dawson's Creek Blvd.
Fort Wayne, IN 46825
260.489.6635
Mark Herald, PE
mherald@vsengineering.com
260.489.6635, ext. 401
Through our extensive design and construction inspection experience on similar
school zone flashing beacon projects, VS is poised to provide the City of South
Bend with the knowledge and superior skills necessary for your pedestrian safety
project. ° RIN 'lf,"' i -I m.
