PD - k2,- ' RESOLUTION Bill No. 12- A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND,INDIANA, REQUESTING THAT KENNEDY PARK AND BELLEVILLE PARK BECOME PRIORITIES FOR OBTAINING MORE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT AND UPDATED SHORT AND LONG- TERM CAPITAL PLANS 4 Kennedy Park located on Olive Street at Westmoor Street contains 38.56 acres and Belleville Park located on Evergreen Lane at Meadow Lane are dedicated to park and recreational activities in the City of South Bend; and Kennedy Park and Belleville Park are listed among the eighty (80) listed parks and facilities on the South Bend Parks &Recreation official website; and G in 2000, the Kennedy Water Playground opened as a "low-depth, interactive water playground which is geared for children between 18 months and 10 years of age; with some of the features including a slide, tire swing, and multiple s�ray features being available for fees if 3 years or older with the facilities being opened from June 7 to August 8`h; and on April 12, 2004, the South Bend Common Council passed Ordinance No. 9500- 04 which approved the transfer of 0.374 acres of the northern portion of Kennedy Park to the City of South Bend in order to permit the City to straighten and make other improvements to Bendix Drive; and N) in the interest of addressing the growing needs of the residents and visitors who frequent Kennedy Park and Belleville Park this Resolution is being Bled so that there will be discussions with the Park Department and Board of Park Commissioners before the 2013 budget process begins. 94 rw, ar""e d,, ly 4G Zwd, afn4ona, as follows: Section I. The Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, believes that South Bend provides great park and recreational opportunities throughout our city. Section II. The Council believes that there continues to be a growing and sustained demand for more playground equipment at Kennedy and Belleville Parks which should be addressed before next year's budget process begins. Section III. The Council further believes that positive discussions should take place so that the needs in these two (2)popular parks may take place. Section IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by the Council and approval by the Mayor.
