Mayor Buttigieg claims that he is “working to strengthen the
local economy by retaining and attracting businesses, partner with the local public school
system, manage a cutting-edge and transparent city administration {sic}…”We feel that,
for the good of the community, the Mayor should make good on his promise of
transparency and finally disclose all of the details in this matter.

We stand with all of those in the community who are seeking truth and justice. Our core
values necessitate that we hold our elected officials to the highest ethical standards.
While we are making no accusations of ethical misconduct, we observe that the
appearance of impropriety in this matter has caused the citizens of South Bend to lose
confidence in the government that was duly elected to serve them.

In order to restore public trust in the Mayor’s office, and as the Party of loyal opposition,
we respectfully request that all tapes, documents and records relating to the demotion and
termination of employees of the South Bend Police Department be released to the public
and that a full investigation be conducted to ensure that this matter is fully adjudicated.

Respectfully Submitted,

Dr. Deborah Fleming
St. Joseph County Republican Chair

Enc.
