LuEcKE, MAYOR BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS December 9,2010 Ms. Teri DeCola University of Notre Dame 91'0 Planner Hall Notre Dame,Indiana 45556 RE: Alley Vacation—The First East/West Alley between St. Peter St. &Notre Dame Avenue, South of St. Vincent Street and Howard Street (Preliminary Review) Dear Ms, DeCola: The Board of Public Works, at its December 6, 2010 meeting reviewed comments by the Engineering Division, Area Plan Commission, Economic Development, hire Department, Police Department, Solid Waste Division and the City Attorney's Office. The following comments and recommendations were submitted: • Area Plan stated that the vacation would not hinder the growth or orderly development of the unit or neighborhood in which it is located or to which it is contiguous. The vacation would not make access to the Iands of the aggrieved person by means of public way difficult or inconvenient. The vacation would not hinder the public's access to a church,school or other public building or place. The vacation would not binder the use of a public right of way by the neighborhood in which it is located or to which it is contiguous. • The Fire Department stated that closing this alley will hinder their fire attack tactics by reducing the route of the water supply to the structures at the north/south alley. • NIPSCO stated that there is a gas main in the eastern portion of the proposed alley vacation. They need to maintain access to this alley for maintenance purposes and no structures can be built over the gas main located in that alley. • Engineering stated that the approach to enter the alley on the St.Peter Street side will need to be closed if there is no vehicular access to St. Peter Street.
