Jefferson Blvd., Ste 1316 <br />South Bend, IN 46601 <br />Re.: City of South Bend School Zone Flashing Beacons at 39 Schools Safety <br />Improvements <br />Dear Members of the Board of Public Works: <br />The VS Engineering Team understands that this school zone flashing beacons <br />installation project brings much needed safety measures for school children across <br />South Bend. The school zone flashers are a necessary means to help protect <br />children, teachers and other individuals from high -volume vehicular traffic and <br />is a continuation of a multi -phased effort to provide school -related pedestrian <br />safety. Our Project Manager, Mark Herald, PE, is already familiar with some of <br />the City's pedestrian safety measures as he was the project manager on both the <br />Lincoln Primary and Perley Fine Arts Academy Safe Routes to School (SRTS) design <br />projects. Both projects improved sidewalks and curb ramps for neighborhood areas <br />surrounding the schools. <br />Through our extensive design and construction inspection experience on similar <br />school zone flashing beacon projects, VS is poised to provide the City of South <br />Bend with the knowledge and superior skills necessary for your pedestrian safety <br />project. <br />Our Team has specific school zone flasher experience on over 500 installations <br />including: <br />►► 4`h & Rogers Street/Allen & Walnut Street Intersection/ Pedestrian <br />Improvement Design & Inspection (City of Bloomington) <br />►► Meadow Elementary School Zone Flasher Installations (City of Indianapolis) <br />►► School Zone Flashers Phases I, II and III: 518 total 25mph flasher installations <br />construction inspection (City of Indianapolis) <br />►► High -intensity activated crosswalk beacon (HAWK) Pedestrian Signal Design <br />(City of Peru) <br />At VS, we know that our work reflects on you and understand your need for a <br />superior and worry -free project delivered on time, within budget, with as short of a <br />disruption time to commuters and school schedules as possible. <br />Our team, led by Mark Herald, PE, will communicate with you at every step of <br />the way and work together to make sure that it happens.
