Councilmember Karen White seconded this motion which carried <br /> by a roll call vote of nine (9) ayes. <br /> 18-62 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br /> OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, TO <br /> ACCEPT A RECOVERABLE GRANT FROM <br /> THE INDIANA HOUSING AND COMMUNITY <br /> DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY, COMMUNITY <br /> DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT—DISASTER <br /> RELIEF II <br /> 18-63 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br /> OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, TO <br /> ACCEPT A RECOVERABLE GRANT FROM <br /> THE INDIANA HOUSING AND COMMUNITY <br /> DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY, LEAD <br /> HAZARD REDUCTION DEMONSTRATION <br /> GRANT AND HEALTHY HOMES <br /> SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDING <br /> Councilmember Gavin Ferlic, chair of the Community Investment Committee, reported that they <br /> met this afternoon and send these bills forward with no recommendation, due to the lack of <br /> quorum. <br /> Pam Meyer, Director of Neighborhood Development for the Department of Community <br /> Investment with offices located on the 14th floor of the County-City Building, South Bend, IN, <br /> served as the presenter for these bills. Ms. Meyer stated, These two (2) resolutions are being <br /> requested to get your approval of two (2) grants that are being awarded to the City of South Bend <br /> that create a pool of resources to address lead in various homes in the City of South Bend. The <br /> resolutions are part of the grant agreement so, in order for us to send the grant agreement back to <br /> the State to start the process, we need these resolutions approved. The total of the grant awarded <br /> is $672,857. It will address lead in homeowner and rental units built prior to 1978 with a priority <br /> to those units that will be leased or are owned by families or individuals with children under the <br /> age of six(6) and, or, pregnant persons living in the home. <br /> Councilmember Oliver Davis asked, What is the key way for the public to reach out to you <br /> regarding these grants? <br /> Ms. Meyer replied, They can call 311, which many people have been doing. They could also go <br /> directly to the State of Indiana and both of those things are on the City's website. They can come <br /> to the Department of Community Investment and could also go to the St. Joseph County Health <br /> Department.Various other partner agencies in the community like the Near Northwest Community <br /> health workers have applications, Community Wellness Partners,the WIC Office has applications <br /> and so do hospitals. <br /> Councilmember Oliver Davis followed up, While the majority of it is for those who have young <br /> children, what about for our senior citizens? A lot of them have older homes. What happens in <br /> those kind of situations? <br /> 17 <br />
