South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting—March 13, 2012
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
C. Airport Economic Development Area
(1) continued...
Mr. Davis asked if the tournament that is to
take place in Benton Harbor is apt to help or
hinder Blackthorn getting future tours. Mr.
Firestone replied that this is a stepping stone
both for Blackthorn and for the city as it will
bring an attendance over three days of about
10,000 people. It will demonstrate how well
Blackthorn is suited to larger events and may
lead to more of them. The event in Benton
Harbor will draw 40,000 to 50,000 people,
and impact Blackthorn very little.
Mr. Davis asked whether the other city golf
courses complain about the competition of
Blackthorn. Mr. Firestone replied that that
debate happens all over the country. He has
not heard any more complaints than in the
past. Blackthorn does everything it can to
work with everyone in the community the
same way.
Mr. Downes asked Mr. Firestone if he was
happy with all the requirements in the
contract. His response was yes. He's
confident that Blackthorn will meet and
exceed projections. He has sold yet another
sponsorship. The community has been
fantastic and supportive.
Upon a motion by Mr. Downes, seconded by COMMISSION APPROVED FGTA,LLC
Mr. Varner and unanimously carried, the TOURNAMENT SANCTION AGREEMENT
Commission approved FGTA, LLC (BLACKTHoRN GOLF COURSE).
Tournament Sanction Agreement
(Blackthorn Golf Course).
13
