Buttigieg also thanked South Bend Fire and
Police personnel for their service to fellow Hoosiers impacted by the storm.
"In the aftermath of the tornado damage in southern Indiana and in preparation for the
possibility of dangerous weather this spring and summer,we wanted to review the City's
policies for responding to storm damage," said Buttigieg.
Through discussions with various city departments at South Bend Parks and Recreation's
O'Brien Center, Mayor Buttigieg relayed the city's responsiveness to different types of
storm damage to the public.
Here is a list of useful procedures relating to residential storm cleanup:
1. If a tree/limb fell from the front, back, or side yard, call Solid Waste at 574-277-
8823.
2. If a limb or tree is blocking a street, sidewalk or alley, please call the Park
Department at 574-235-9414. The same is true if a tree/limb fell from the tree
located in the grassy area between the sidewalk and street curb (tree lawn area).
3. If the tree/limb fell or is leaning on electric wires, call AEP at 1-800-311-4634.
City residents are responsible for damage and downed limbs or trees on private property.
For pickup, limbs and hunks should be divided into 4-foot sections.
If unable to bundle debris in 4-foot lengths or less, residents can take debris to the
Organic Resources Facility located at 4340 Trade Drive in South Bend.
