REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 13, 2012 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />APPROVING A PETITION OF THE SOUTH <br />BEND BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS FOR <br />THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT 1902 <br />WESTERN AVENUE, SOUTH BEND INDIANA <br /> <br />Councilmember Oliver Davis made a motion to refer Bill Nos. 12-08 and 12-09 to the <br />Zoning and Annexation Committee and set it for Public Hearing and Third Reading on <br />February 27, 2012. Councilmember White seconded the motion which carried by a voice <br />vote of nine (9) ayes. <br /> <br /> <br />BILL NO. 12-10 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />APPROVING A PETITION OF THE SOUTH <br />BEND BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS FOR <br />THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT 1434 <br />GARLAND CIRCLE, SOUTH BEND INDIANA <br /> <br />Councilmember Oliver Davis made a motion to refer this bill to the Zoning and <br />Annexation Committee and set it for Public Hearing and Third Reading on March 12, <br />2012. Councilmember White seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine <br />(9) ayes. <br /> <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />Councilmember Henry Davis, Jr. questioned when the redistricting process will begin in <br />South Bend. <br /> <br />Councilmember Henry Davis, Jr., advised that he will be hosting the Honorable Mayor <br />Michael T. Pembleton, Jr., of Sunflower, Mississippi on Friday, February 24, 2012. They <br />will tour successful South Bend housing programs and discuss ways for Mayor <br />Pembleton to improve Sunflower’s affordable housing opportunities in his 2012 city plan. <br />Councilmember Henry Davis, Jr., stated that they will tour South Bend’s new senior <br />living facility in LaSalle Square, visit Habitat for Humanity homes in the city and meet <br />with other city officials to discuss South Bend’s successful affordable housing programs. <br />He encouraged anyone wanting to participate to contact him. <br /> <br />Councilmember Oliver Davis advised that he is the Council’s representative to the <br />TRANSPO Board and he will be sending out a summary regarding the revised <br />TRANSPO routes. <br /> <br />PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR <br /> <br />COMMENTS BY REVEREND SYLVESTER WILLIAMS, JR. REGARDING SOUTH <br />BEND LABELED AS A DYING CITY <br />Reverend Sylvester Williams, 702 Lincolnway West, South Bend, Indiana, advised the <br />Council one year ago February 2, 2011 a group of ministers converged on this building in <br />the lobby lead by himself inspired by the Lord, because of an article that was in the <br />Newsweek magazine that everyone all knows about and read. It stated that South Bend is <br />a dying city, not every likely to live again. The ministers came and they began to speak <br />and pray for our city, it made the local news. Not only did it do that, it made the <br />newspaper. On Thursday, he will be giving the State of the WUBS address which will <br />include what you did not hear from the Mayor’s address. What you did not hear from the <br />Chamber of Commerce luncheon just a week ago. How this city was revived because of <br />that prayer and what he sees as an assessment one year later. He stated that will be <br />happening at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012, and to tune into 89.7 to hear the <br />rest of the story. . <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 26 <br /> <br />
