„ , : ;~, a ~ ~' "l ~ 1" ~ ®n o ® - °$ g 4 2007 Annual Report of the Community and Economic Development Committee of the South Bend Common Council Date: December 10, 2007 To: The South Bend Common Council The Office of the City Clerk From: 1St District Council Member Derek Dieter, Chairperson Community and Economic Development Committee I am pleased to file the following 2007 Annual Report of the activities of the Council's Community and Economic Committee which is required by § 2-10 (i) of the South Bend Municipal Code. As each of you will recall, the Community and Economic Development Committee is charged with: "Overseeing the various activities of the Department of Community and Economic Development and programs directed by the Division of Community Development, Division of Economic Development and Financial and Program Management "pursuant to § 2-10 (i) (2) of the South Bend Municipal Code. There were four (4) Council Members on this Committee, namely: Randy Kelly who served as Vice-Chairperson, and Ann Puzzello and Karen L. White as Members, and myself as Chair. Professor Martin Wolfson of the University of Notre Dame and Phil Panczica of Panzica Building Corporation provided valuable insights as our citizen member. The Community and Economic Development Committee was one of the more active standing committees with twenty-two (22) meetings being held. The bulk of the Committee meetings focused on various types of tax abatement requests, appropriation requests, updates on DTSB, Inc., Project Future, formally establishing the "Dollar House Program", as well as continuing discussion of our local tax abatement procedures. Tax abatement requests included discussions on the following: • Tax Abatement requests heard in chronological order for: 4440 North Portage Road (1St District) for South Bend Clinic Various addresses for Kendall-Weiss, LLP 920 St. Peter Street for Jill R. Bodensteiner
