DIVISION 13 — SPECIAL. CONSTRUCTION <br />13.01 Fire stairs - General <br />1. Base Bid: Provide and install 4 sets of fire stairs as indicated on the drawings, New stairs to <br />match general tread & riser configuration of the existing fire stairs. <br />2. Alternate bid: In lieu of replacing the 4 fire stairs on the east side of the building, replace <br />only the two southern fire stairs on the east side of the building. <br />3. For purposed of this bid, assume that any adjustments or repairs required to the concrete <br />flatwork or supporting piers at finish grade will be made by other. <br />6. Assume truck and lift access to east elevation via adjacent property will be available. SBH <br />will coordinate this access with adjacent property owner. <br />7. Storage, overnight staging, dumpsters or other similar items shall not be set on adjacent <br />property. <br />8, Removal of existing wood fence to facilitate stairway work will be by SBH. <br />13.02 Demolition — refer to Division 2. <br />13.03 Building code <br />Building code InBC 2014 (IBC 2012 + Indiana amendments). <br />IBC Chapter 34 Section 3404 exception 1 allows for the new stair tread & riser configuration to <br />match the existing (to be replaced) configuration. Other than stair treads and risers, new stair <br />must comply with IBC Section 1009. Risers shall be solid. Handrails and guards shall comply <br />with IBC Section 1012 except in cases where full extension of handrails would create a hazard. <br />13.03 Tread and Landing Materials <br />8 518" bar grate stair treads (excluding winders) with checker plate nosing. Treads to be 1 1/" <br />bar height and 3116" bar thickness. <br />Winder treads may be bar grate wl diamond plate nosing or plain 118" thick checker plate at <br />contractor's option. <br />Solid risers from checker plate. <br />Landings to be 1.25" bar grate with checker plate nosing at top riser. 1 '/4" bar height and <br />3/16" bar thickness. <br />8" steel channel construction for stair stringers. 7" steel channel for landings. <br />1.6" OD Round Tubular Handrail on both sides of stairway and at 36" from top of tread and as <br />otherwise required by code. <br />13.04 Finish: Black ext paint — primer + 2 coats black epoxy finish. Touch up in the field after erection. <br />13.05 Submittals <br />1. Shop drawings indicating profiles, sizes, connection attachments, reinforcing, anchorage, <br />size and type of fasteners, and accessories. Include erection drawings and connections <br />using standard AWS A2.0 welding symbols. Indicate net weld lengths. <br />END OF SECTION <br />
