But Brian's retirement does present a unique opportunity to combine management of <br />Century Center, the Morris and Palais under one Executive Director reporting to tl~e Century <br />Center Board of Managers. Combined management of these facilities would give us a unique <br />product tv sell, create eiBciencies and bring more business to all three sites. Sa, I have asked the <br />Century Center Board to consider assuming this added responsibility. There are some important <br />questions to resolve to ensure that neither facility drains resources from the other, but rather <br />enhances opportunities for success. We also must involve members afMorris Entertainment, <br />Inc. who have so faithfully guided the restoration of the Morris and the Palais -and raised the <br />private funds which allowed these projects to be <br />successful. We celebrated their most recent <br />accomplishment last Fall, the installation of the <br />new Morris marquee which replicates the original <br />style but has modern messaging capability. Tlae <br />Morris has gained national stature. It ranks 46s' in <br />the world for ticket sales! It presents local talent <br />and national celebrities. This Wednesday the <br />Moody Blues start their national tour right here in <br />South Bend! Sorry, fans, if you haven't aheady purchased your tickets it's too late, the show is <br />sold out. The Palais is also a unique vernie which adds elegance and history to the mix. Merging <br />the management of these facilities through the can-do attitude of both boards will help all three <br />facilities to reach a new level of success. <br />Getting Things Done ...Technology <br />As we consider consolidation of management functions for the Morris and Century <br />Center, we will also continue to look for efficiencies throughout government. During a trip to <br />Louisville last year we ]earned about several programs to encourage entrepreneurship and to <br />support key businesses in the area. One component was a unique business visitation program <br />housed in the Greater Louisville Chamber. Sharon Kendall, Executive Director of Community <br />& Economic Development, and I had already been discussing a position far business expansion <br />and retention.
