Our municipal golf courses are great values and a key to Golf Digest naming South Bend as the <br />16~' best place to play golf in the U.S. We like to get players hooked an golf at a young age. <br />Over SAO participants played in our junior golf program at Studebaker Golf Course last year. <br />The Parks and Rec staffkeeps us operating at championship levels. From Coveleski Stadium- <br />home ofthe 2005 Midwest League Champion Silver Hawks! -- to Belleville Softball Complex <br />which consistently ranks as one ofthe finest operations nationally for tournaments and has won <br />the Tames Farrell Award for Excellence for the seventh consecutive time. The staff is so good <br />that we have been awarded the 2007 Men's and Women's National ASA Major Fast Pitch <br />Tourneys. This is the first time that both tourneys have been held in the same city in one year. <br />Our King Center Lady Soldiers basketball team wan the National Adidas Basketball Shootout in <br />Indianapolis. But they were champions offthe court as well. Rec Center staff mentors youth in <br />education and responsible social behavior. The Lady Soldiers high school age team maintained a <br />grade point average of 3.28! By carrying forward the values that they are learning, these young <br />ladies will be champions at life! There's plenty to be proud of in our hometown. <br />Quality of Life ...Arts & Culture <br />Another area that has reached critical mass in recent years and that is critical to our <br />growth as a 21~ Century City is arts and culture. A vibrant arts community with varied arts <br />venues reveals the spirit and creative energy of a place, It attracts young professionals and <br />encourages innovation. We are fortunate to have five outstanding museums as anchors for <br />~_ ~ - <br />=`~. <br />-P _~-' <br />downtown: the South Bend Regional Museum <br />nfArt, the College Football Hall of Fame, <br />HealthWorksl Kids Museum, Copshaholm <br />and the Center for History, and the Studebaker <br />National Museum. 'These first-class facilities <br />are joined by newcomers The Spurious <br />Fugitive Gallery, Fire Arts and Gallery 805. <br />Art Beat has become the event of the year, and <br />the Near Northwest Neighborhood hosts its <br />annual Arts Cafe.
