South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -March 10, 2006
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
B. South Bend Central Development Area
() continued...
side of the street, so those are some issues
that, together, we're going to have to work
out in order to realize this vision. We
have had substantial conversations already
with the Maennerchor Club and feel like
we have a good relationship established
with them. We have shared our plans
with them, so I think we've done a lot of
due diligence for our part.
Mr. Hojnacki asked how Eco-Urban
would resolve the Maennerchor
relocation. Who would pay for it?
Mr. Keen responded that Eco-Urban has
discussed with Maennerchor the
possibility of trading some of the Phase II
retail space for its present building. We
want the Maennerchor Club to stay where
it's at. We think they are part of the
history of the place. They help define the
place. They've been there since the 1870s.
We don't need all the retail space. We
could give them 1,000 sft or 2,000 sft.
We've discussed this with them.
Mr. Hojnacki asked if, then, there would
be no cost to the city to provide the
Maennerchor site for development.
Mr. Keen responded that the city would
not need to pay for its relocation, but Eco-
Urbanwould like the city to be a
negotiating partner and provide a master
plan for that area would be important.
16
