South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -March 10, 2006
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
B. South Bend Central Development Area
() continued...
you combine this with our focus on an
energy stewardship based approach,
you've got to be pretty excited about the
fact that we want to invest in S o uth B end
for the right reasons. What we're asking
back from the city is really a pretty
minimal investment in terms of the
capacity of this site, and, as we've
demonstrated on the rest of Sycamore
Street, we can bring upward of ninety
people on one block. No new sewer, no
new water, no new roads. We do have a
good model, but it has to start slowly in
South Bend, helping people realize there
is an alternative to the suburbs. South
Bend is a great place to be and we believe
in that. We're trying not to ask for very
much, but we do feel like the payback to
the city, just purely in tax base, is a very
short term return for a long term view.
b. Your proposal states "...we believe it is
only fair and responsible stewardship of
the city's economic resources that if the
city shares some of the risk and
investment in a development project, it
should also share in some of the return."
Does this mean that you propose to
establish a legal relationship with the city
whereby the city would be entitled to
receive some of the profit that may be
produced by your development?
Written Answer: Yes.
If yes, please provide the details of your
proposal including: (i) the definition of
12
