South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br /> Regular Meeting—June 28, 2011 <br /> 6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.) <br /> D. West Washington-Chapin Development Area <br /> (2) continued... <br /> University over the last several years. Rev. <br /> John Jenkins is really taking a leadership in <br /> reintegrating us to a place where we are with <br /> economic development. <br /> Mr. Varner asked what the return for the city <br /> is going to be. Mr. Brown Gort responded <br /> that Notre Dame has been working on this <br /> for three years. They had a draft <br /> memorandum of understanding that was put <br /> aside because Notre Dame has a policy that <br /> any University building has had to have <br /> 100% commitment and 75% funds in hand <br /> before Notre Dame would go forward on a <br /> project. They will have an MOU before the <br /> project moves forward. <br /> Mr. Varner asked what the boundaries were <br /> in the MOU. Mr. Gibney responded that the <br /> draft MOU in 2009 was a strong start. Now <br /> that the university has raised the funds it <br /> needed, that MOU will be tightened up, but <br /> not radically different than what the <br /> Commission has seen before. <br /> Mr. Brown Gort added that once Notre Dame <br /> takes over ownership, they then will be doing <br /> community programs out of the building and <br /> will maintain the building from there on. <br /> Upon a motion by Mr. Downes, seconded by COMMISSION APPROVED THE ADDITIONAL <br /> Ms. King and unanimously carried, the FUNDING REQUEST OF$430,000 FOR THE <br /> Commission approved the additional funding HANSEL CENTER PROJECT,SUBJECT TO THE <br /> LEGAL DEPARTMENT'S APPROVAL OF THE <br /> request of$430,000 for the Hansel Center MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING,AND <br /> project, subject to the Legal Department's AUTHORIZED MR.INKS TO SIGN THE DOCUMENT <br /> approval of the Memorandum of <br /> 38 <br />
