The downtown portion of <br /> the feasibility, to be funded by TIF, would <br /> cost $18,000 plus expenses. <br /> Staff recommends $22,000 be approved to <br /> cover the full cost of this study. <br /> Mr. Varner asked whether the Metronet will <br /> be charging a fee for access and whether this <br /> canopy will require the city to pay a fee to <br /> Metronet. <br /> Mr. Littrell noted that a"hotspot" would be a <br /> misnomer for what's being proposed. The <br /> Commission has supported many Metronet <br /> installation costs: provided facilities, <br /> extended conduit around the city. It's very <br /> expensive to connect to the Metronet. Large, <br /> industrial/commercial/institutional/ <br /> educational users who have Metronet <br /> connection are physically connected with a <br /> 12-cable fiber (lateral). Construction of that <br /> type costs about $10,000 for each facility. <br /> There are further costs for the company to <br /> have its own internal wiring for its <br /> connections.
