Tax Abatements <br />() continued... <br />reason we're applying for this is we're not <br />looking for a handout, we're taking a piece of <br />property that wasn't paying any taxes at all. <br />We're trying to take something that currently <br />is paying nothing and add something to it. <br />There's just a little bit ofburn-off during that <br />five-year abatement period. When it's all <br />said and done, it's a very big net gain for the <br />community. <br />Mr. Mathia noted that we're in competition <br />with the county and the county generally has <br />taxes much lower than us. We're looking to <br />fill up some of those vacant properties. <br />Upon a motion by Mr. Downes, seconded by <br />Ms. Jones and unanimously carried, the <br />Commission approved Resolution No. 2358 <br />approving an application for real property tax <br />deduction for property located at 624 N. <br />Notre Dame Ave. in the Northeast <br />Neighborhood Development Area. <br />(5) Commission approval requested for <br />Resolution No. 2360 approving an <br />application for personal property tax <br />deduction for property located at 2722 W. <br />Tucker Dr. in the Sample-Ewing <br />Development Area. (Steel Warehouse) <br />Mr. Mathia gave the staff report on the <br />project. Steel Warehouse is applying for <br />three abatements. One at 2722 Tucker Drive, <br />one at 1400 Riverside Drive and one at 1217 <br />Walnut Street. They are installing new <br />equipment at each of these locations.
