Personnel and Finance Standing Committee <br />.. <br />.-,~ :,~ <br />207 South Bend Common Council <br />The October 8, 2007 meeting of the Personnel and Finance Committee of the South Bend <br />Common Council was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Charlotte D. <br />Pfeifer at 3:25 p.m. the Council's Informal Meeting Roam. <br />Persons in attendance included Council Members Dieter, Varner, White, Kirsits, Kelly, <br />Pfeifer, Rouse and Puzzello; City Attorney Charles Leone, John Murphy, Jeff Gibney, <br />John Murphy, Pam Meyer, Bob Mathia, Council Intern Antoinette Redding, Martha Lewis, <br />Jamie Loo of the Soufh Bend Tribune and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br />Council Member Pfeifer noted that the Committee Members include Council Members <br />Kuspa, Kirsits, Varner and herself; and Diana Hess is the Citizen Member. Today's <br />committee meeting was called to review Bill No. 57-07 the proposed 2008 salary <br />ordinance for the Mayor. <br />Bill No. 57-07 2008 Sala for the Ma or: <br />City Attorney and Acting Mayor Charles Leone made the presentation on Bill No. 57-07. <br />He noted that the salary increase is the same as the non-bargaining employees. <br />In response to a question from Council Member White, Mr. Leone confirmed that the 2008 <br />salary of $94,633 reflected a 2% increase over the 2007. <br />There was no one from the public to speak in favor or in opposition to the Bill. <br />Council Member White made a motion, seconded by Council Member Kirsits that Bill No. <br />57-07 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion passed. <br />Miscellaneous Buslr~ess: <br />Council Member Dieter noted that under the leadership of Council President Rouse, the <br />Common Council is the only city group which will not be getting salary increases in 2008. <br />Council Member Pfeifer noted that the additional monies however were kept i the <br />Council's budget so that they would be available far "what the Council saw fit". <br />In response to a question from Council President Rouse, the Council Attorney noted that <br />the Council passed at their last Council meeting the ordinance setting the Teamster <br />salaries at 2%, which satisfied the state law required to take final action prior to September <br />30th. She stated that former City Controller Fanello indicated to her that the City <br />Administration would be filing an ordinance to amend that ordinance to include a 2% <br />increase for the Teamsters for calendar years 2009 and 2010. She stated that she has not <br />received any further updates. <br />
