REGULAR MEETINGJULY 25, 2005 <br />Whereas, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is proud to <br />recognize that Deborah A. Martin has been the Bureau of GIS Manager in the <br />Department of Public Works for the City of South Bend since February of 2000; and <br />Whereas, the Bureau of GIS is involved in the strategic development of map <br />databases, tracking of departmental and utility infrastructures for the City of South Bend, <br />and collaborates with many other departments and agencies in planning and providing <br />expert detailed analysis affecting the future growth and development of the city; and <br />Whereas, the Council recognizes that recently Deborah A. Martin was awarded <br />the Geographical Information System Profession (GISP) Certification and is now one of <br />eighteen (18) people in the State of Indiana and one of 717 people worldwide who have <br />earned this professional distinction and honor which was awarded by the GIS <br />Certification Institute; and <br />Whereas, a GIS Certification is career recognition of excellence by the GIS <br />Certification Institute which conducts a detailed evaluation process by individuals <br />engaged in the field of geographic information systems and focuses on educational <br />achievement, ethical conduct, professional experiences and practices of the professionals <br />who work in this field. <br />Now, Therefore, be it resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the <br />Common Council hereby publicly thanks and commends Deborah A. Martin, Bureau of <br />GIS Manager for the City of South Bend, Indianafor her dedication to professional <br />excellence in being awarded the Geographical Information System Professional <br />certification. <br />Section II. The South Bend Common Council is proud to recognize that Deborah <br />A. Martin has brought honor to herself; her family, colleagues, and friends; the Bureau <br />of GIS, and the City of South Bend, Indiana in attaining this professional distinction <br />which will benefit and enhance the City’s capabilities of computer mapping, computer <br />tables and graphic representations. <br />Section III . This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its <br />adoption by the Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />stth <br />s/Derek D. Luecke, Mayor of South Bend <br />Councilmember David Varner, 1306 Clayton Drive, South Bend, Indiana, made the <br />presentation for this Resolution by first offering comments and then reading the <br />Resolution in its entirety and presenting it to Deb Martin. <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. <br />There was no one present wishing to speak to the council either in favor of or in <br />opposition to this Resolution <br />Deb Martin thanked the Council for this honor. <br />3 <br /> <br />
