REGULAR MEETINGJUNE 13, 2005 <br />Councilmember Varner made a motion for favorable recommendation to full Council <br />concerning this substituted bill as amended. Councilmember Puzzello seconded the <br />motion which carried by a voice vote of eight (8) ayes. <br />BILL NO. 31-05 PUBLIC HEARING ON A BILL OF THE CITY OF <br /> SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, COMMON COUNCIL <br /> APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION <br /> OF A LEASE ADDENDUM FOR THE <br /> CONSTRUCTION OF AN ADDITION TO THE <br /> O’BRIEN RECREATION CENTER AND REGARDING <br /> CERTAIN RELATED MATTERS <br />Councilmember Dieter made a motion to consider the substitute version of this bill. <br />Councilmember Puzzello seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of eight (8) <br />ayes. <br />Councilmember Dieter, Chairperson, Parks, Recreation, Cultural Arts & Entertainment <br />Committee, reported that this committee met this afternoon on this substitute version of <br />this bill and sends it to the Council with a favorable recommendation. <br />Mr. Phil St. Clair, Superintendent, South Bend Park Department, 321 E. Walter Street, <br />South Bend, Indiana made the presentation for this bill. <br />Mr. St. Clair advised that this bill authorizes and approves an Addendum to the Lease <br />between the City and The South Bend Building Corporation (Building Corporation) for <br />the O’Brien Recreation Center (The Building). The original lease was dated August , <br />1999 and amended December 15, 1999. The purpose of the proposed addendum is to <br />increase the lease rentals payable, and thereby allow for certain necessary improvements <br />to The Building which will be financed by the non-profit Building Corporation through <br />lease revenue bonds in a sum not to exceed $920,000. The improvements include <br />construction of an addition to The Building to be used as a fitness center. This <br />construction project will substantially enhance the Park Department’s services to South <br />Bend’s citizens. <br />This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents <br />and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br />There being no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in <br />opposition to this bill, Councilmember Puzzello made a motion for favorable <br />recommendation to full Council concerning this bill as substituted.
