John H. <br /> Murphy was selected by Controller Catherine Fanello to be Assistant City Controller effective <br /> February 19, 2007 and the Department of Administration and Finance recently welcomed Philip <br /> E. Custard as the new Purchasing Manager. Both men bring extensive experience to their new <br /> positions. <br /> "We are pleased to welcome Philip and John to our team," said Ms. Fanello. "The City is <br /> fortunate to have found candidates who are so well qualified." <br /> In addition to being a licensed Certified Public Accountant, John Murphy has twenty-five <br /> years experience in both the public and private sectors. He has worked extensively in local <br /> governments in Southwestern Michigan and has served on national budget and audit review <br /> committees for the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. <br /> Philip Custard has many years of purchasing experience. Most recently, Custard served <br /> as the Purchasing Supervisor for a global automotive supplier. Mr. Custard has worked as a <br /> professional buyer or purchasing agent since 1974 and was recognized for outstanding work in <br /> 2003 by a State industry council. <br /> "The expertise that each of these men has brought to their departments has enabled them <br /> to hit the ground running, allowing the City continue providing efficient service to South Bend," <br /> said Ms. Fanello.
