City of South Bend <br /> Mayor's Office <br /> Media Advisory <br /> September 11, 2006 <br /> Contact: Mikki Dobski, Director of Communications & Special Projects, <br /> 574-235-5855 or 876-1564. <br /> 9111 Memorial Service <br /> South Bend's Community Memorial Service was held at 11:30 AM, Monday, <br /> Sept. 11, at the Firefighters Monument at Seitz Park on the East Race in downtown South <br /> Bend. <br /> Mayor Steve Luecke invited the entire community "to join in a remembrance of <br /> those who perished during this tragic event five years ago and to honor those who serve <br /> today and ever day to keep our country and our community safe." <br /> Participants in the ceremony included representatives of the Indiana State Police, <br /> South Bend Fire and Police Departments, South Bend Metropolitan Police and Fire Pipe <br /> Band, St. Joseph County Sheriff s Department, Clay Fire Department,Notre Dame Fire <br /> Dept.,Notre Dame Army ROTC, the 766 Trans Batallion/88t'RRC, Emergency <br /> Management, TSA Ass't. Federal Security Director, and city, county, and federal <br /> officials. <br /> An American flag, flown over Ground Zero and presented to South Bend by New <br /> York Firefighters Jim Morandi and Rich Bostic as well as a piece of steel from the ruins <br /> of the World Trade Center, and a cross and helmet from the NYFD were also be included <br /> in the ceremony. <br /> Memorial Hospital Med Flights conducted a flyover during the ceremony. <br /> Jefferson Intermediate School 7th & 8th Graders participated by placing a wreath at the <br /> Fire Fighters Monument. Special thanks Palace of Flowers for donating the wreath. <br /> At 10:28 AM,the time that the second tower at the World Trade Center fell, all <br /> South Bend Fire Stations sounded their sirens to honor the memory of those who lost <br /> their lives and all who have been impacted by this act of terrorism. <br /> COURAGE <br /> O" <br />
