Luecke, Mayor
RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE:
OFFICE OF MAYOR LUECKE THURSDAY, JANUARY 13, 2005
Flooding Closes Parts of Northside Boulevard
The City of South Bend has announced that Northside Boulevard between Louise and Emerson Streets has
been closed due to flooding of the St. Joseph River. The YMCA and other businesses along this stretch are still
accessible via surrounding residential streets. In addition, Northside Boulevard, just west of IUSB and along
Veteran's Memorial Park has also been closed. IUSB is accessible via residential streets or Mishawaka
Avenue. Flood waters are also expected to affect river front parks and roadways. Northside Boulevard will be
reopened when the river subsides.
The National Weather Service warns motorists to not drive vehicles through flooded areas. Do not let children
play in or near flood waters. High water may cause flooding of basements and interfere with some commercial
activities.
Flood stage is 5.5 feet and the river rose above flood stage early this morning when it was measured at 5.6
feet. Moderate flooding is forecast and the river is expected to crest at 8.4 feet, 2.9 feet above flood stage, on
Saturday, January 15, 2005.
For more information, contact Sam Hensley at 235-9244 or Mikki Dobski at 235-5855 or 876-1564
Back I City Home Page I City Directory I Site Map I Search Go
powered by FreeFind
Created by the City of South Bend Department of Information Technologies.
Copyright©2005 City of South Bend. All rights reserved.
http://www.ci.south-bend.in.us/Press/Releases 2005/011305 flooding.htm 1/13/2006
